Family Session FAQs

What can I do to make sure that my family session goes well?

  • Bring snacks for the kiddos, but make sure that they don’t get stuck on teeth or stain fingers/mouths/clothes.

  • Bribe like you’ve never bribed before, but make it something they receive after the session.

  • Keep me informed of your child’s favorite shows/characters/songs, these come in handy!

  • Be a total goofball nerd. And do it uncomfortably close to me and my camera lens so that your child/baby is looking our direction and not off to the side!

  • Chill out. I get that the hours leading up to family photo sessions can be stressful as you get everyone ready and out the door. But know that your time with me will be fun.

  • I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that you (the reader) are a female/wife/mother since I’ve had zero husbands book me for my services. With that, keep your husband in the loop. Shockingly, about 97% of dads don’t care for photo sessions. Things that help him through it are set expectations, and a post-session bribe for him as well.

  • What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate? Can we reschedule? What about illness?

    • Absolutely, there is no charge for rescheduling your session. However, some ominous clouds or windblown hair can often add such a great feeling to your images, so make sure to discuss your concerns with me!

  • Is there an extra charge for additional people in a family session?

    • No, that’s crazy. If your people are willing to work with me, I am willing to work with them!

  • Do you offer mini sessions?

    • Hardly ever, but when I do, it’s usually only for past clients. I need to connect with every family that I photograph, and I feel like I can’t do that if I’m rushing you into a 15 minute time slot!

  • How do we dress?

    • Upon booking, I will send you my wardrobe guide. Until then, here are some top tips!

      • DON’T MATCH! Show off everyone’s unique personality

      • Think timeless…I don’t want your kids (when they’re surly teens) looking at these photos and making fun of the outfit choices. I mean there will always be some of that, but let’s minimize it as much as we can!

      • No super bold colors that cause a color cast on your skin.

Maternity session faqs

  • At what point during my pregnancy is the best time to book a maternity session?

    • I find that the best time for a maternity session is between 29 and 34 weeks. If you book it earlier, there’s a chance you won’t appear all that pregnant, and if you book later, there’s a chance baby could arrive early and we don’t even get to document your beautiful pregnant belly!

  • Can my husband/kids/dog be included in the session?

    • Yes of course! Bring whoever you want, as long as we can fit everyone into your hour-long session time, you’re golden.
